Campus grants: support a college funds itself

Many colleges fund grants from their own budgets. These follow the school’s own rules.

The short version

  1. Institutional grants come from the college itself.
  2. Some schools require an extra form.
  3. Rules for renewal vary by school.

How they are awarded

Colleges may award grants based on need, academic record, field of study or other factors they choose. Each school publishes its own approach.

Extra forms

Some private colleges ask for an additional form alongside the FAFSA. The school’s aid website will say if it does.

Renewal

Ask whether a campus grant is for one year or for every year you are enrolled, and what conditions apply.

Questions for the school

  • Do you offer institutional grants?
  • Is there a separate form or date?
  • What are the renewal conditions?
